Silver Valley Traffic Fatalities [2001-2009]

Have you ever wondered what regional Silver Valley roads result in the most traffic fatalities? Maybe you’ve wanted to find more specific information about the traffic fatalities like what mode of transportation they were using and if that’s a frequent occurrence on that stretch of road.

Using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation, ITO World Ltd. has compiled a data map of fatalities into a visual tale of deaths on the road.

The data only covers information from 2001 to 2009. Many recent fatalities you recall on the news will not be visible.

In Brief: Snowstorms Expected

We've already seen our first snow in the Inland Northwest and KXLY4's Chief Meteorologist Kris Crocker said several more winter storms are on the way.

Light to moderate snow is expected Wednesday in the valleys, Crocker said. The chance of snow lingers through Friday with moderate to heavy snowfall in the valleys.

She also said the temperatures aren't going to climb high enough to do much melting anytime soon.

Idaho State Police Offer Winter Driving Safety Class

Idaho State Police Offer Winter Driving Safety Class

Perhaps your winter driving skills are not up to par. One popular test for vehicles is the moose (or elk) test. It’s just how your vehicle acts when you evade a suddenly appearing obstacle. Add snow to that formula.

Idaho State Police are holding a Road Safety Class for the winter season next week. It’s a classroom-based course that educates drivers the typical problems associated with winter road conditions in Idaho. It's being held at the District Office, located at 615 W. Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d'Alene.

Event Details: The class is on Saturday, November 19th, at 9 a.m. It’s a three-hour course at no cost. Class size is limited to 60 people. To sign up, call (208) 209-8620.

Hiawatha and Silver Mountain Deal

I've heard about the Route of the Hiawatha since I lived to Missoula, Montana. Maybe this year, I'll finally join the thousands of others who bike the route along Lookout Pass every year.

It was a first for a lot of people this year. Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area, who operates the Hiawatha, reports record numbers from August, 12,844 visits, a 4.4% increase.

The patrol says they issued nearly 18 hundred tickets for violations, took 214 vehicles out of service for safety violations and removed 43 drivers from behind the wheel, mostly for record of duty violations.

One driver was arrested for drunken driving and two had suspended licenses.

Idaho Receives Honorable Mention from the League of American Bicyclists

The latest results from the League of American Bicyclists are out. Your neighbor, the state of Washington, leads the nation for Bicycle Friendly America, an annual award. Idaho, however, is a roller coaster of emotions.
