Spirit Lake City Hall moves

Spirit Lake City Hall has moved about a block.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reported that city employees will now be housed at 6042 Maine Street, east of the hall's former location in a redesigned Pawn Shop.
The biggest change resulting from the move is the city is now housing its council meetings in the new building.

“It's a serious upgrade for the city and the whole community,” Mayor Todd Clary said in the report.

The city bought the building for $150,000. The building that was previously used as the city hall will be remodeled before the police department takes over the space.

Department of Interior Recommends Idaho Backcountry for Congressional Protection

A new report suggests 18 backcountry areas that are recommended to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar for congressional protection.

At this point it’s only a preliminary list that will be used to collection local support for the foundation of a bipartisan public lands bill that they hope to pass through Congress.

The list was compiled by Deputy Secretary David J. Hayes and BLM director Bob Abbey based on input from congress, state and city officials and interested parties.

"The backcountry areas we identify in this report are by no means the only public lands that may deserve protection by Congress, but this preliminary list of possibilities shows that there is a compelling case for bipartisan legislative action to conserve lands for recreation, protection, and enjoyment," said deputy secretary David J. Hayes.

Locations from Washington, Idaho and Montana made the list. They’re not exactly localized near you, but if you find yourself traveling for vacation, check them out.

Anyone headed to the big city - Coeur d'Alene or Spokane - from the St. Joe River area heed warning. And, vice versa for people headed from said big city into the country. Idaho Panhandle National Forest says the popular St. Regis Road (Forest Highway 50) is closed. Crews are replacing culverts in the Bear Springs and Float Creek area.

The Idaho Panhandle National Forest suggested the following alternative routes:

Those travelers who wish to cross over Gold Pass between St. Regis, Montana and the upper St. Joe River will need to use an alternate route. Regular passenger vehicles traveling between St. Regis and the upper St.
