Resource authority committee to approve final proposed forest projects next week

Legislation that establishes the Idaho Panhandle Resource Authority Committee the ability to recommend projects to the forest service will expire at the end of the month. RAC is speeding up the process by finalizing approval for projects during their final September meeting.

The public is welcome to join the public meeting and forum to provide comment on funding for proposed forest project.

The upcoming Forest Insect & Disease Field Day co-sponsored by the University of Idaho Extension and the Idaho Department of Lands is still taking registrations until July 22nd for the Coeur d'Alene event. The program is geared toward landowners with larger stance of forest in their acreage.

Average U.S. temperature increases by 0.5 degrees F

New normal temperatures are to be released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tomorrow. Their Climatic Data Center has noted the average U.S. temperature increased by 0.5 degrees F. Some of the biggest changes in average temperatures occurred in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Arizona. They saw highest increase in their minimum (low) temperatures.

North Idaho College has less than 700 tickets in this year's Really BIG Raffle. It's sold 5,000 tickets for $100 each so far for the drawing which is set to take place July 13 at Fort Sherman Park on the NIC's main campus.

NIC Carpentry students built the grand prize house in Coeur d'Alene. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and special features. Other prizes included a $20,000 car, a $10,000 boat, a $3,500 travel package and a $2,000 shopping spree.

Route of the Hiawatha Opens Saturday!

Pump up the bike tires and grab your helmet - one of the Inland Northwest's favorite trail rides, the Route of the Hiawatha, opens Saturday!

The June 11th opening actually marks a delay in the trail's typical season. The route usually opens from May to September, but the cool spring and heavy snowfall delayed the opening. Crews from Lookout Pass, which operates the trail, have been clearing the snow from the trailhead's highest peak to get ready for this weekend.
