Here Comes Santa Paws, Here Comes Santa Paws...

Here Comes Santa Paws, Here Comes Santa Paws...

Does that dog look excited or what?

What do you suppose he asked santa for? Beggin' Strips? A new tennis ball?

Your pet - of all shapes and sizes - can come visit Santa Paws Saturday, December 17th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He'll be at Northwest Seed & Pet at 7302 North Divison.

They ask for a $5 donation for the pictures, and proceeds go to the Spokane Humane Society.

Oh yeah... if you "Like" our KXLY 4 Facebook page we'll donate 25-cents in your honor to the Humane Society. So far our fans have raised over $3200!

Second Harvest Shopping Spree

Second Harvest Shopping Spree

Ready, set, shop!!!

Mark Peterson faced off against KXLY viewer Justin Holderby in a 3 minute shopping spree at Yoke's Fresh Market today. Justin won a KXLY contest and got the chance to fill his cart with groceries to take home. Mark filled his cart with food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Thanks to Mark's quick feet (and his Second Harvest helper), the food bank collected $1178.05 in groceries. Our favorite morning weatherman loaded up on cheese sticks, peanut butter, fruit cups and more.

Justin loaded up his cart with his favorites - beef jerky and coffee - and walked away with $556.27 in groceries. He also won a freezer from Fred's Appliance.

Season of Giving Food Drive

Season of Giving Food Drive

Time is running out to donate to the Season of Giving Food Drive. KXLY, Yoke's Fresh Markets and Second Harvest are working together to collect food for Spokane's hungry. The drive ends on Thursday.

Second Harvest says it's never seen a need so great in its 40 year history and hopes that the community will step up and donate.

Giving is made easy thanks to Yoke's where you can donate cash and food, or buy a pre-made bag of food to donate. Another easy way to help: look up the KXLY Facebook fan page and donate directly.

KXLY hopes an extra big push on the final day will encourage people to give.

Kellogg students play for Salvation Army at Walmart

Kellogg students play for Salvation Army at Walmart

Instead of the normal bell-ringing for the Salvation Army’s holiday red kettles, these young men were playing in front of the Smelterville Walmart on Sunday afternoon.

KXLY viewer, Debbie Marek, emailed us to give these guys a shout out for giving their time and talents. She even shot this photo of the guys.

They’re students at Kellogg High School. They’re all in a Kellogg-based band called White Chocolate. They describe themselves as alternative/funk/indie-rock on their band page at Reverbnation.

They don’t perform frequently due to the busy schedule of school, but they all participate in the school’s regular band and jazz band.

Countdown To 25th Annual Holiday Light Show

A crowd of 30,000 is expected to pour into downtown Coeur d'Alene on Friday to kick off the Christmas season with the 25th annual Holiday Light Show.

The event starts at 5:00 p.m. with a parade along Sherman Avenue.  (Hint: Get there an hour or two early to a claim a spot on the sidewalk.)  At 6:00, head over to the front lawn of the Coeur d'Alene Resort to sing Christmas carols.  A 1,200-shell fireworks show begins at approximately 6:15, and then they flip the switch to turn the holiday lights on, all 1.5 million of them.

Bring The Kids To See The Holiday Lights

Bring The Kids To See The Holiday Lights

It's an embarrassment. In fact, it's a downright shame. I have lived in Spokane for nine years - eight Christmases - and, had never taken a ride on the Coeur d'Alene Resort's Holiday Lights Cruise. Tuesday night, I righted that wrong - and, now, I hope you'll follow my lead and take a ride to the North Pole.

North Idaho Families Recall Finding the Perfect Christmas Tree

North Idaho Families Recall Finding the Perfect Christmas Tree

It’s about time to start thinking about holiday decor if you’re a household that likes to seasonally decorate. Regional forest service agencies are opening the outdoors for Christmas tree hunting. Some will make the trek into the wilderness for the perfect tree. Some gave up years ago and take up the task of dragging the fake tree from the basement. To each their own.

A few neighbors shared their Christmas tree traditions -- heading into the wilderness a la Griswold familia. They recall the cold and wet weather, as well as the fathers wielding chain saws.

Matthew Gardner, Coeur d’Alene resident, remembers his parents bickering of what tree was best. The Gardner family had a big decision to make. Was the tree full enough and could it fit in their Post Falls home?
