CHS helps Boston victims

Coeur d'Alene High School has teamed up Wildcat Pizza to aid the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing last month.

Every Monday in May between 3pm and 10pm, a proceed of the profits at Wildcat Pizza in Hayden and Kellogg will be donated to the One Fund Boston. There are two Mondays left to get involved and help out, tonight, May 20th and next Monday, May 27th.

Festival at Sandpoint announces summer concert series

The Festival at Sandpoint announced the line up for this year's annual summer concert series and it doesn't disappoint.

The 31st season kicks off on August 1st with a show by Grammy ward-winning folk duo the Indigo Girls. The folk theme continues in later shows with Rosanne Cash and the Avett Brothers. Cake and The Steve Miller band will take the stage as well this year. With the exception of Cake, all the shows feature up and coming opening acts.

The Family Concert will be performed by the Spokane Youth Orchestra and Sandpoint's Studio One Dancers. "An Invitation to Dance" will feature ballet selections including a performance of "Sleeping Beauty". At only $6 a ticket it will be a great event for the kids with pre-concert activities like the Instrumental Petting Zoo as well as an actual petting zoo.

The Spokane Symphony will headline the grand finale concert on August 11th. The performance will feature pianist Fransisco Renno and hometown violinist, Jason Moody. A fireworks finale will close the annual festival.

Girl Scouts asking for support during Idaho Gives

Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho is hoping the region will jump on board and donate during the first ever Idaho Gives campaign.

Idaho Gives is a 24 hour giving campaign sponsored by the Idaho Nonprofit Center. The event gives donors the opportunity to give to any of the 531 participating non profits across Idaho. For every $10 donation made groups will be entered to win a Golden Ticket prize. The more donors that GSEWNI gets, the more chances they have to win prize money.

Groups have also been divided by size into three separate scoreboards. Each scoreboard carries an additional $5,000 worth of prize money that will be divided between the top five money raisers at the end of the day. Idaho Gives also features an Everybody Wins Award, this award takes a general pool of money and divides it by the percentage if the total raised. For example, if Girl Scouts raises one percent of the total for the entire campaign, then they receive one percent of the Everybody Wins Award.

With ski season entering its final stretch, we at KXLY want to see the awesome mountain photos you took of your friends and family shredding.

Send your best shots to news4@kxly.com (with the subject line: Photo contest), and the newsroom will vote on the best photo, which will be shown during Chief Meteorologist Kris Crocker's ski report on Friday's newscasts. We will put together a slideshow for the KXLY Communities sites, so even if you don't win, your work will still be showcased.

Make sure to include where you are, the name of the photographer, names of the people in the photo and your contact information so you can be reached for a short story.

So sift through those awesome stills of your loved ones dominating some pow-pow and send them in for a chance to be shown to the Inland Northwest.

Group puts out a Play in a Day in CdA

Most play productions feature about 12 to 20 speaking roles, this play features 53. Most casting directors have days to select their cast, this production has an hour.

The degree of difficulty is at an all-time high when the Christian Youth Theater of North Idaho puts on its 4th annual Play in a Day – a children's theater production that spans just over 24 hours from casting to performance.

According to director Jeff Rocco, 117 kids between 8 and 18 signed up to perform in this year's play, which will be at 7:30 p.m. in the theater at the Ray and Joan Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene. There are also 23 kids who signed up to be on the crew, which has to build a set overnight.

“It's no fun if you don't use them (the children) all,” Rocco said.

Dirty Dash registration opens

The popular Dirty Dash opened registration today for the 2013 “race” to be held at Riverside State Park on July 13.

Loyalty registration, which runs until Jan. 30, costs only $35. After that the price to sign up steadily rises the closer we get to the event.

“Resolve to make 2013 your dirtiest yet and we guarantee to make that happen for you in one unforgettable morning of feasting on filth, groveling through grime, delighting in dirt, and wallowing in mud rather than self-pity,” a news release from Dirty Dash said.

Cd'A artist, car dealership give back by building sweet treat for kids

Facing a debilitating disease and a Christmas season with three kids – including a newborn – a Coeur d'Alene artist did something extremely rare: He decided to focus on helping others.

Jason Sanchez had the idea to help Children's Village in Coeur d'Alene this Christmas because he knew he "had to do something out of the goodness out of the heart." So he contacted the charity and told them he had a plan to help by building a gingerbread replica to raise donations.

"My first reaction was to burst out laughing," Janie Givas, development director for Children's Village, said. "People have grand ideas all the time, until they realize what it will take to actually complete the project."

But when Sanchez came in with "a beautiful board already drawn of this great gingerbread house I knew he was for real," Givas said.

Sanchez had spoken with Sarah Colbert of Tom Addis Lake City Ford, who OK'd funding – about $500 – the project, and he was all set to start creating.
