Severe Weather Awareness Week: Do You Know What To Do?

Last week's horrific, record-shattering tornado outbreak had many of us breathing a sigh of relief that we live so far away from "tornado alley".  That said, we do get our own brand of severe weather here in the Inland Northwest, and it's important that we know what to do when it happens.  This is "Severe Weather Awareness Week", and our local National Weather Service office has a series of special reports chock-full of

Boat Launch Closes for Repairs

Boating season is here!

But, if you're headed to Killarney Lake in North Idaho you will need to use another boat launch for spring and summertime fun.

The Killarney Lake Boat Launch on Killarney Lake, 20 miles east of Coeur d'Alene near Rose Lake, is closed to the public for repairs and rennovations.

The Bureau of Land Management said the new boat launch will feature a concrete ramp.

Although, repairs can't be made until the water is at a low levels which most likely won't be until next winter.

PaleoIdaho! Celebrating Local Archaeology in Idaho

Example: Did you know that a Folsom point was unearthed at Owl Cave in 1977. It tested positive for trace amounts of elephant blood. This means that the Pleistocene residents of Southern Idaho successfully hunted mammoth.

Bowl For Kids' Sake

Bowl For Kids' Sake

Bowl, eat pizza, enjoy time with friends, win raffle prizes and help a good cause while you're at it.  Talk about a fun way to spend your day.  And, Bowl For Kids' Sake allows you to do just that.

The event is put on by Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Participants get sponsored to bowl and that money goes to the non-profit.  It's simple, it's easy, and it will make the world of difference in the lives of children who depend on BBBS.  The organization pairs children with a healthy, stable adult who spends one-on-one time with that child.  Something essential

What The Heck Is A Guberif?

What The Heck Is A Guberif?

To answer the headline, it's "Firebug" spelled backwards.

More to the point, Guberif is a character created in 1950 to remind Idahoans to be careful not to accidentally set a wildfire.  Kind of like Smokey Bear (that's right, there's no "the" in his name), but not nearly as memorable.  Until now, perhaps, because Guberif is making a comeback.
