Silverwood Theme Park Rewards Readers

Any adult can tell you reading is important. A kid might be able to do the same, but in a kid's world other things are likely to take priority over opening up a book.

So Silverwood Theme Park gives children incentive to do it. Free tickets to the largest theme and water park in the Northwest to every kid that completes 10 hours of recreational reading. It's called Reading Is The Ticket and the program just reached it's $10 million mark in free donated tickets. The program began in 1999.

Ever heard of the Endless Summer? Well up on Silver Mountain they're still celebrating their Endless Winter, with skiing still available up on the mountain, even if the calendar says we should be getting ready for waterskiing and not snowskiing.

Silver Mountain is reporting it will be open for skiing and snowboarding this coming weekend on both Saturday and Sunday, in what they're dubbing as the "last opportunity for snow sports until the winter."

Report: Larry Marek Died Instantly In Cave-In

A preliminary accident report by the Mine Safety and Health Administration is shedding some light into the deadly cave-in at the Lucky Friday Mine that killed miner Larry Marek on April 15.

That preliminary report explains that Marek was doing dust control at the time of the cave-in, hosing down the rock that had already been blasted away from the face of stope he was working in.

Marek died instantly when he was buried underneath 30 feet of rock and fill, the report said.
